The Bhangra Project is a major arts and cultural project developed by Asian Arts Agency to celebrate and explore bhangra culture in UK.

The project takes place at venues and festivals across Bristol and the South West region with live performances, exhibitions, screenings, outdoor displays, new commissions, participatory events and workshops, club nights and talks. From intimate Bhangra dance displays to large Dhol band performances there will something to inspire, astound, engage and entertain. With colours and glitz abound, Bhangra comes alive in venues small and large.

During the course of the project there will also be many bhangra workshops opportunities where adults, children and families can get involved and explore or experience Bhangra in a hands on creative way. This participatory Bhangra workshop program runs parallel to the main performances and exhibitions program to provide learning opportunities for children, young people, adults and families. Whether it’s through music making, dance, textiles or visual art, there will be many opportunities to get involved with the theme of Bhangra. These workshops will happen at festivals, community centre’s and schools on a free and paid basis.

The Bhangra Project takes place for the first time in 2008/2009 and is set to become the biggest ever celebration of bhangra in the South West of England!

The Bhangra Project is supported by the National Lottery through Arts Council England and it’s programme is developed and produced by Asian Arts Agency.
